NEW RIDER COURSE
Never ridden before? Want to get your license? This course is designed for the student who has little or no experience, maybe unfamiliar with the location/operation of controls, and may not have operated an on-road motorcycle. The format is either 3 day (Weekend – Fri Eve; Sat and Sun) or 4- day (choice of AM or PM M-F)- includes an eCourse, 5 hours of classroom and 10 hours of range exercises. The New Rider Course will lead you through the steps to learn to ride a motorcycle and get you on the road. It starts at a basic level and builds on the skills in a building block method. Training motorcycles are provided. Specific gear is required (see all below). You will complete a knowledge and skills demonstration to receive your endorsement.
Intermediate Rider Licensing Course
Been Riding awhile? No endorsement? This course is designed for the student who has been riding for a period of time, has a motorcycle and has a learner’s permit. Format is an eCourse, 2-hours classroom and 6 hours of range exercises. This course gives the student an opportunity to learn new skills, good riding habits and to practice skills necessary to successfully complete a skills demonstration to receive your endorsement. Specific gear is required (see all below). Current registration and Insurance required.
Skilled Rider Course - Skills Practice
Know how to ride but took a break? Want to knock off the rust? Or maybe just sharpen your skills. This course is designed for the student who has been riding for a period of time, has a motorcycle and an endorsement/permit. Format is 1 day and no eCourse or classroom. No knowledge or skill demonstration is provided. No endorsement is granted. It offers the student an opportunity to gain new skills and hone skills they possess to increase their confidence riding their motorcycle. Specific gear is required (see all below). Current registration and Insurance required.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Learn to ride on a genuine Harley-Davidson® motorcycle
- Classroom and range instruction from state & Riding Academy certified coaches
- Learn to safely accelerate, shift, brake, and turn, along with maneuvers like controlling skids and surmounting riding obstacles
- Earn a Motorcycle Safety Course Completion Card, which may score you a discount on motorcycle insurance
Rider Skill Testing

Rider Skill Test
Been riding quite a while? Riding on a permit with no endorsement? The Rider Skill Test is NOT a class. It is Ride Safe Indiana approved skills demonstration for those with a valid permit who are confident they can adequately demonstrate skills necessary to operate a motorcycle on the road safely. This test is administered generally on Wednesday afternoon but maybe available by appointment. Please call the Riding Academy Mgr at 812-232-7821 ex 1165 to schedule your exam. Specific gear is required (only 1 and 2 below but 3-6 are recommended). Current registration and Insurance required.
Required Gear:
1. DOT approved Helmet
2. Eye protection (if no visor on helmet)
3. Full finger gloves
4. Long Sleeved Jacket/shirt
5. Long Pants/Jeans – NO holes
6. Sturdy, over the ankle footwear
